Why Public Makers?
The public sector faces enormous challenges. It’s time for change.
TALENT GAP
By 2030, Germany's public sector will face a shortage of about 1 million employees (Source). This creates enormous challenges for delivering value to citizens while maintaining trust in government. The public sector needs diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences to attract talent and better serve all citizens in tackling these complex challenges.
TRUST CRISIS
Growing dissatisfaction and declining trust in democracy threaten our societal foundations. To rebuild trust and engagement, governments must shift from reactive administration to proactive governance, making automation, digitalization, and transparency the norm. Citizens deserve insight and participation, open government and participatory decision-making are key to restoring legitimacy and faith in public institutions.
INNOVATION GAP
Too few spin-offs emerge from academia, and knowledge transfer isn't working effectively. We need more "Public Entrepreneurship", you don't need an MBA to create change. We want to foster agency and self-efficacy, showing that everyone can be a changemaker in the public sector.
How we address this?
Our principles shape how we respond to systemic challenges.
EDUCATE
We inspire students and equip them with the knowledge and tools necessary to understand the public sector and see it as a meaningful space for impact.
Our Micro Masterclass series provide real-world insights, public sector literacy, and access to institutional leaders. With the mentoring program we aim to connect students and public administration ad guide each other on the next steps. Workshops and discussions offer valuable insights and allow to learn new skills.
MAKE
We create spaces where students and institutions collaborate to build solutions for real-world public challenges - prototyping, experimenting, and implementing change. Through a mix of formats, we turn ideas into action: Makeathons translate theoretical challenges into tangible solutions, Bootcamps tackle complex issues using a Public Entrepreneurship approach, and Labs enable measurable local impact within just eight weeks.
CONNECT
We foster a growing community that bridges public institutions, civic innovators, and young changemakers - sharing ideas, building trust, and sustaining momentum. Speaker events, partnerships, and a long-term community model ensure connections last beyond single programs and grow over time.
